Music
I’m not one to subscribe to traditional timelines or structures, so that I’m stepping out as a musician and singer-songwriter in my 50s isn’t a big surprise to me. It’s been percolating all along, waiting to emerge at the right time. Music took the forefront a few years ago, which opened doors to be in bands, and to learn from other musicians. As I grew and gained confidence musically, my songs began to take shape. I realized they are more than just ditties for me to hum to myself but something to develop & share. My songwriting style tends to be that they “fall from the sky”, either in seed form or partially developed, then I spend days or months or years mulling them over until they’re complete. I’m still a novice musician, at best, but I believe in what John Prine said; “all you need are three chords and the truth” to write a good song. I’m still gathering the bravery to share my own music more widely than my close group of friends. But I’ll get there. I’m looking forward to this trajectory: to collaborating, growing musically and creatively, and to opportunities that evolve from sharing more of this part of myself. More soon… in the meantime: a photo gallery of musical happenings over recent years.
